Privacy Policy

The short version

Drobu stores everything locally on your Mac. Your clipboard history never leaves your device, and we never see your clipboard or what you do in the app. There is no account to create and no usage tracking. The only things we ever hold are your purchase record and, once you activate a paid license, a device fingerprint and a device label used to enforce the 3-device limit. Both are explained below.

What Stripe collects

When you buy Drobu, Stripe collects your email, payment info, and IP address to process the payment. We receive your email and payment status, never your card details. See Stripe's privacy policy for details.

License delivery

When you buy Drobu, your license key is delivered automatically: your email address and purchase reference are stored in a fulfillment database hosted on Supabase, and the key is emailed to you from our mailbox (mail you send to us is handled through our mailbox provider and its forwarding). We keep the purchase record so we can re-send your key and provide support for as long as you own a license. To have it deleted, email us. Note that we then can't recover your key for you.

Device activation

When you activate a paid license, Drobu sends a device fingerprint (a one-way hash that cannot be reversed to your hardware) and a device label to our license database on Supabase, and re-checks roughly every two weeks. The label is a short name so you can recognize your devices when managing the limit; on current versions it is your Mac's name, and we are switching it to a non-identifying model label, so older activations stored before that change may still show your Mac's name until the device re-activates. As with any network connection, this reveals your IP address to the server, and we record when each device first activated and last checked in so the limit can be enforced. This exists only to enforce the 3-device limit and to let you see and remove your own devices. It never includes your clipboard, your history, or anything you do in the app. The 14-day trial makes no activation call at all (Drobu still checks for updates, see below).

Update checks

Drobu periodically checks for updates by fetching a file from GitHub Pages. The request includes your macOS and app version in the User-Agent header. No personal data is sent.

macOS permissions

Drobu asks for Accessibility (to simulate Cmd+V for pasting) and Screen Recording (for GIF/video capture). Neither is used to monitor your activity or collect data. Password manager entries (1Password, etc.) are automatically ignored and never stored.

No tracking

This website uses privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics (Umami). It records only aggregate counts, such as page views and download-button clicks. It sets no cookies, builds no personal profiles, and does not track you across other sites. You are free to block it, and we do not try to get around that.

Don't take our word for it, verify it

Drobu is a commercial app, not open source, so you can't read the code. But you don't have to trust the claim that your clipboard never leaves your Mac, you can watch the network yourself. Run a per-app firewall like Little Snitch or the free, open-source LuLu and use Drobu normally.

You will see exactly two kinds of connection, and nothing else:

What you will never see is your clipboard going anywhere. The text, images, GIFs, files, and recordings you copy are stored only in a local database on your Mac and are never part of any request. Block the update or license connections if you like, your history keeps working.
